PROFILE OF GT. ISAAC ADJEI DOKU, PhD. ‘80/’82/H2

Gt. Isaac Adjei Doku, PhD. ‘80/’82/H2, is the General Manager, Corporate Affairs at the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo), and an accomplished, multi-disciplinary professional with over thirty-seven (37) years of rich and diverse experience across several strategic fields. Over the last fourteen (14) years, he has built a distinguished career in the energy sector, serving in leadership roles spanning Planning and Power Business, Commercial Services, Strategy and Project Management, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Human Resource Management, External Relations, and Stakeholder Engagement.

Gt. Doku attended the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) from September 1975 to June 1982, and rose to become the Senior School Prefect during the 1981/1982 academic year. He pursued further studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), graduating with First Class Honours in BSc Civil Engineering. He went on to specialise in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, earning master’s degrees from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom (1991) and the University of Toronto, Canada (1993). In 2002, he obtained his Doctorate from the University of Leeds.

Though a seasoned Environmental and Sanitary Engineer by training, Gt. Doku transitioned into Information and Communications Technology in the United Kingdom after completing his PhD, pursuing a passion he had nurtured for years. He acquired multiple internationally recognised ICT certifications from global industry leaders, including Microsoft, Cisco, and VMware. He progressed to become an Infrastructure Manager for the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) Information Centre in Leeds.

He returned to Ghana in June 2011 to join the Volta River Authority (VRA) as ICT Infrastructure Manager, and in January 2012 was appointed Acting Director of Management Information Systems (MIS). He was confirmed as Director of MIS in January 2013. During his tenure, he also held other directorate-level roles, including Director of Planning & Power Business and Director of Commercial Services. He played a pivotal role in establishing the foundations of VRA’s modern ICT systems between 2012 and 2013, spearheaded key innovations in the power business, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Commercial Services Department of VRA.

On 1st March 2021, Gt. Doku was seconded to the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) as General Manager, Corporate Affairs, joining the organisation’s Strategic Management Team (SMT). In this capacity, he provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Human Resources, External Relations, and Corporate Communications functions. His work in external relations includes high-level stakeholder engagement to strengthen collaboration with key government institutions across WAPCo’s operating countries—Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria—while building and sustaining constructive and harmonious relationships with host communities along the pipeline corridor.

Gt. Doku is happily married and blessed with five children. Beyond his professional pursuits, he is also an ordained minister of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, reflecting his commitment to faith, service, and community impact.
